Mr Chris Lind
Research Interests
Christopher Lind is Functional Neurosurgeon to the West Australian Neurosurgical Service and Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Neuromuscular and Neurological Disorders, University of Western Australia. He is the founder and team leader of the Neurofinity Surgical NeuroDiscovery Group with responsibility for all functional neurosurgery services to the state of Western Australia (pop 2.2 M). Both private and public patients are treated at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Patients with movement disorders have their outpatient care is coordinated by the Australian Neuromuscular Research Institute on the same campus.
Mr Lind research focus is on functional neurosurgery which encompasses surgery for movement disorders, neuropsychiatric disorders and pain. His approach is to collaborate with experienced researchers in the allied fields of neurology, neuropsychiatry, pain management, basic and applied neuroscience and neuroimaging to develop surgical therapies and use surgical approaches to enable improved understanding of how the human brain works in health and disease.
As a functional neurosurgeon with training in deep brain stimulation from Mr Peter Watson in Perth, Western Australia, Mr Lind has experience targeting globus pallidus interna and Vim thalamus. He travelled to Europe in 2007 to gain exposure to subthalamic region stimulation and translational neurosurgical research in Oxford, Bristol, London, The Hague and Roeselare. He trained with Professor Steven Gill and Hunterian Professor Nikunj Patel in the MRI-directed guide-tube technique developed at the Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, UK which gives the opportunity for exquisite anatomical targeting of structures seen on prolonged MRI sequences under general anaesthesia as well as intraoperative MRI verification of lead location using MRI compatible stylettes.
