Young Onset Group (YOGs) Scholarship

The name “YOG’s” stems from the Young Onset Support Group in Perth, Western Australia for people with Parkinson’s, who were diagnosed before 55 years of age. This dynamic, positive group first met in February 2006 with 10 interested people, and has grown to approximately 40 members.

The Young Onset Group Scholarship has been established at Edith Cowan University out of the interest of YOG’s to support local research.

Money donated to the YOG’s Scholarship throughout the year would enable a student/s to obtain an (annual) scholarship to conduct research into Parkinson’s disease for initially a term of 12 months.

A panel will select the scholarship recipient. The panel should consist of: I Young Onset Person (YOG’s), 1 academic from Edith Cowan University and 1 other person who could determine the criteria.

The scholarship recipient will be in touch with the YOG’s Support Group at least twice during their year. Initially the recipient will supply information as to what they are working on and later give a presentation as to their progress towards the end of their year.

I leave you with the YOG's motto:

‘’This is the best day of my life,
I'm not scared of tomorrow,
I've seen yesterday and I love today”
